The social media platform TikTok previously did not provide a sufficient number of characters in the caption section . Now, however, TikTok lets you share longer descriptions on videos.
Previously, TikTok descriptions were limited to a number similar to a tweet or around 300 characters. The character limit has now been increased to the same 2,200 characters as Instagram. As a video-first platform, descriptions are never the focal point of TikTok and the app's design isn't even a match for reading them.
The shorter the description, the easier the text to read. Longer video descriptions just push the text above the video making it harder to watch the full video.
Reported by Mashable, Monday (10/10/2022), in addition to the longer video description, TikTok also highlighted several other updates in a press release last Thursday. The company officially announced photo mode, a photo sharing feature. You can think of a dumping ground for Instagram photos set to music, diversifying what TikTok has to offer its users.
The platform is also making changes to the way you edit video by adding new ways to edit clips, sound, and text, as well as the ability to add overlays and sound effects. From TikTok photo and caption updates to Instagram pivots to Twitter's new video and video viewer, every major platform is in an endless battle to be everything.
